In preparation for ratgirl industries' first release, I wanted to lay out all the details behind the makings of ratgirl.

I've attempted to be as environmentally friendly as possible; using recycled and also biodegradable packaging, using old notebook papers from classes for the notes that I send out, and by just limiting the amount of unnecessary "cutesy" packaging as much as possible. The mailers that I currently have are made from recycled paper and are biodegradable but they include recycled bubble lining, which I did not intend to get. The bubble lining can be removed, and then the rest of the mailer can still be recycled regularly. In the future I will be purchasing them without the bubble lining to minimize the amount of plastic waste that my business creates.

I've also tried to support other small businesses when buying things for my business. Going forth, only a small portion (hopefully 0-10%) of my inventory will come from Goodwill. I'm going to try to attain as much of my inventory as possible from Mom and Pop thrift stores. Both my logo stickers and logo stamp were purchased from sellers on Etsy, and I plan to invest in a couple more stamps from the same seller in the future. I am open to collaborations with other local or non-local small businesses in the future as well!

Currently, about 50% of my inventory is size small and medium (mainly pants and jackets), but I have sizes ranging from XS-XL and I am looking to increase that range in the future as well.

As much fun as it is to buy a pair of pants for $5 and then sell them for $50 to some upper-middle class white girl, that's not the business I'm trying to run here. A 500% return like that would definitely make things easier on me, but I want my business ethics to be consistent, regardless of scale.

If you have any questions, comments, or advice for someone trying to start a small business, shoot me an email, or a message on my Instagram!
